Abstract

Driver drowsiness remains a leading cause of road accidents, particularly among night bus operators. This community service program (PKM) aimed to transfer and implement a hybrid drowsiness detection technology integrating physiological monitoring (heart rate via MAX30102) and behavioral analysis (EAR & MAR with night vision camera) to enhance road safety practices. The program followed a participatory action approach involving 35 drivers and 5 pool managers from Damri Bandung. Activities included needs assessment, safety socialization, hands-on training, supervised field testing, and post-intervention evaluation. Results showed a significant increase in drowsiness risk knowledge from 54.2% to 82.6% (p<0.05), a technology acceptance rate of 88.5%, and a 63% increase in compliance with rest-stop protocols. The hybrid device achieved an average heart rate error of 7.27% and maintained detection accuracy under low-light conditions (0 lux). Community participation was strengthened through the establishment of a driver safety cadre and a maintenance manual. This program demonstrates that technology transfer, when combined with structured training and community engagement, can significantly improve occupational safety practices in night transportation.
