Abstract

The Mohammed Bin Zayed (MBZ) Elevated Toll Road is a strategic high-speed toll facility that requires visually clear and technically consistent road markings to support driver alertness and speed control. This article aims to present the design of zig-zag markings, lane-narrowing markings, and chevron speed reducing markings based on the internship report conducted at PT Jasamarga Jalanlayang Cikampek. The method used a technical-design approach through field observation, road geometric measurement, existing-condition documentation, traffic-volume analysis, speed-sample analysis, and reference to road-marking material standards. The analyzed segment has a total roadway width of 10 m, lane width of 3.5 m, outside shoulder of 0.5 m, inside shoulder of 2.5 m, divided four-lane two-way road type, and flat alignment. The 2025 V/C ratio showed an average value of 0.63 with service level B, while the December traffic volume reached 915,574 vehicles on Route A and 949,382 vehicles on Route B. Speed samples at KM 10 generally ranged from 80 to 90 km/h, with several high outliers during off-peak conditions. The resulting recommendations include zig-zag markings for emergency parking bay areas, three chevron marking alternatives for visual speed reduction, and lane-narrowing markings to create a controlled perception of limited road space. Material specifications emphasize thermoplastic and coldplastic quality, glass beads, anti-skid performance, and minimum retroreflectivity. The proposed design is expected to strengthen road safety management on elevated toll roads without adding physical obstacles.
