Leakage from LPG tank trucks can escalate into fire, vapour cloud explosion, or BLEVE, yet a leak may go unnoticed by the driver during a trip. This study designed and tested, at laboratory scale, a low-cost early-warning prototype for LPG tank trucks. Following a research-and-development procedure limited to prototype testing, the system combines an MQ-6 gas sensor, an Arduino Uno, a buzzer, a 16×2 LCD, a GPS module, and a SIM800L GSM module that sends an SMS containing the leak status and coordinates. Tests were run on a miniature tank truck using a butane canister. In five functional trials (two without gas, three with gas), all outputs matched the design logic. Mean detection time increased with release distance, from 1.40 s (SD 0.20) at 5 cm to 15.37 s (SD 2.80) at 25 cm (t = 0.708d − 2.64; R² = 0.951). The mean SMS delay was 7.86 s (SD 0.51), giving an estimated detection-to-notification time of about 23 s at 25 cm. GPS output was stable in a static test, but positional error was not measured. Field testing, sensor calibration, and certified explosion-protected hardware are required before vehicle use.
